What is going on with journalism in this country? Has the profession of journalism become extinct in the information age? Are we only interested in "Idol" and "Dancing with...". Today there was a large oil spill in Michigan, over 800,000 gallons estimated to have been spilled. Where was the news media on this? Pravda had an article on it. Makes you wonder who is controlling the information to the public?

Fed-up... True professional journalism died 30 years ago. Walter Chronkite was the beginning of the end of true unbiased journalism. With him began the era of opinionated newcasts. His peers regarded him as the guru of news and so began the age of the US being considered the enemy by most of the media.

The quality of reporting has been sacrificed in favor of quantity. Quantity is needed to fill up the time in the 24/7 news cycle.

I agree with the previous poster. With so many ways for journalists to make an income nowadays, quality has taken a backseat. With the blogosphere and the 24/7 media circus entrepenurial writers tend to be more interested in getting the quantity out in the published world and see what pans out. The days of critical journalism, with tedious research and standards, seem to be behind us.
